Critically acclaimed Au Petit Chavignol has closed its doors after just a few years. The spin-off venture from the good folks at Les Amis du Fromage, did a lot of things right, but struggled to keep busy in a fringe neighborhood between Gastown and Hastings Sunrise The East Village.

Official statement from the website:

We would like to let you know that we’ve made the decision to close Au Petit Chavignol effective immediately. After four wonderful years, we would like to thank our guests for their amazing support.

We feel that the time is right to move on to new opportunities and growth within les amis du FROMAGE, and we look forward to sharing more details with you at a later date.

For those in shock and now terrified of losing their neighborhood top-drawer cheese fix, not to worry.

The East Vancouver les amis du FROMAGE is doing great and will remain open.

Too bad. I really enjoyed it. Good to know the shop will stay open.

How sad! I loved the place – such a civilized lunch spot with the best croque madam in the city. I’ll really miss it.
