Blind tasting reviews are a fun game to play with restaurant sommeliers and wine nerds across town. I pour a glass from a mystery bottle and ask them to review it blind. By not knowing what the wine is or who represents it, hopefully, an honest-no-bs-review is achieved. Come inside and read the review of our next contestant…

Jessica Bryans is the Beverage Purchasing Manager for Joey Restaurant Group. When she is not angelically floating through those premium casual restaurants, she is pursuing her WSET Diploma. In addition to her great hair, she has an amazing nose and palate!

Marchesi di Gresy Villa Martis

Category: Hot Italian Numbers (Nebbiolo and Barbera are a sexy couple)

Country/Region: Piedmont, Italy

Appearance: Bright ruby red with a hint of garnet towards the rim.

Winemaker: Marchesi di Gresy

Nose: Beautiful perfumed nose, showing violet, raspberry, red cherry, rose petal and sweet spice.

Palate: Dry, high acidity, medium tannin, body, and alcohol with great flavour intensity! Flavours of red cherry, raspberry, earth and baking spices. Length is medium.

Assessment of Quality: All around showing nice balance and delicious flavour characters and nice ripe fruit. Definitely has the ability to hold for a few years! Shows a sense of place and immediately transports me to Italy after one sip.

Further comments upon reveal: Highly enjoyable wine that tastes even better with food. Would be interesting to evaluate again in a few years.

Availability: Kitsilano Wine Cellar and other private stores

Pricing: $39-42
