The end of summer and onset of fall marks a seasonal shift in beer drinking towards more fuller-bodied styles, like the Märzen that had traditionally been conditioned in ice-filled Bavarian caves since March. To empty the casks to make way for new beer brewed with the harvest’s fresh crop of barley and hops, the Bavarians threw a party. Oktoberfest, which starts today in Munich, has since become a worldwide phenomenon.

MARKET by Jean-Georges is celebrating Oktoberfest with a special three-course, prix-fixe menu featuring traditional Bavarian favourites, such as Brezeln, Leberwurst, Sauerkraut, Spätzle, and Weisswurst. Dinners and weekend lunches include a half-litre of either Ayinger Oktober Fest-Märzen or Bräu-Weisse imported from Bavaria especially for this event.
