What is Pinkberry? If you have been to Los Angeles – you’ll know that this chain of frozen yogurt shops commands a following that borders on the fanatical. I mean, even Larry David can’t resist. The promise of sweet ice cream goodness, topped with your choice of fruit, nuts, or sweet gooey sauces – and is actually good for you? Man, no wonder people are known to wait half an hour for some Pinkberry Goodness (which is the best porn name ever).
Well, they’ve just opened their first Canadian store in Park Royal, and I gotta say, the frozen yogurt is pretty damned good – especially the chocolate, which tastes like almost like a ganache. But healthy! I hope. Already the place is packed with teenagers and bloggers with loyalty cards being punched up at a healthy clip.
Park Royal’s business plan seems to be based on morphing into suburban Los Angeles. With Whole Foods, Five Guy Burgers and now Pinkberry (not to mention a parking lot full of shiny Cayenne’s and Maserati’s – all leased of course) and shoppers with the sharpest but shiniest elbows, you’d be forgiven for thinking that you’ve somehow been teleported to Orange County. I’m not sure if this is progress – but at least the yogurt’s decent.
