This last Tuesday, the Glowbal Group in partnership with the Union Gospel Mission and an army of passionate volunteers, served thousands of free gourmet BBQ meals to the people of the Downtown Eastside in the newly renovated Oppenheimer Park.

Union Gospel Mission president Bill Mollard says, “For UGM, the process of helping someone off the street often starts with a meal. So when the Glowbal Collection approached us about hosting a gourmet BBQ this summer, it was a natural fit. What impresses me about the Glowbal team is that they’re taking what they’re passionate about – which is really good food – and sharing that passion with those who may never otherwise experience a meal like this.”

By the numbers:
6500 plates of food were served and over 4000 people were fed
The Food:
2000 lbs of ribs
2000 lbs of brisket
2400 lbs of chicken
(total of 6,400 lbs of BBQ meat)
1200 lbs of coleslaw
2000 lbs of potato salad
1500 lbs of baked beans
6000 pieces of cornbread
6000 butter tarts
