Red Card Sports Bar + Eatery kicked off the upcoming 2010 FIFA World Cup taking place in South Africa (June 11-July 12) with some special guests, legendary Argentinian mid-fielder and 1978 World Cup champion, Osvaldo “Pitón” Ardiles, as well as Daniel Melendi (former professional player and head coach) were on hand to sign autographs and share some stories.
In a town where ice hockey is the religion and street hockey a close second, soccer, which really is known as football in 80% of the world is the true undisputed king of sport. It is the most widely played game in the world and has an estimated audience of over 3 billion people.
So, having said that, Red Card has upped the ante for sports bars looking to be the World Cup venue of choice. With many big screen TV’s strategically placed throughout the venue, large comfortable seats, a wicked beer list, as well as a top-drawer chef in Andreas Wechselberger (former CinCin) now working the menu, they certainly are a prime contender.
