CRU CELEBRATES SUCCESS OF OKANAGAN’S PAINTED ROCK WITH WINEMAKER’S DINNER

On Sunday, March 7 2010, Vancouver’s CRU Restaurant will present an intimate winemaker’s dinner featuring BC’s Painted Rock winery. The four-course dinner will give guests a chance to discover why Painted Rock rose above tough competition to be named Best New Winery at this year’s Okanagan Fall Wine Festival.
Located on the eastern shore of Skaha Lake, Painted Rock is named for ancient pictographs (rock drawings) made by native Canadians on the property. Everything else about the winery, however, is brand new: the vines were planted in 2005 and 2006, the winery buildings just completed this autumn, and it’s furnished with the state-of-the art winemaking equipment and uses only 100% new oak barrels.
The dinner at CRU will give Vancouverites a chance to see what all the buzz is about. Painted Rock’s proprietor, John Skinner, will host the event, sharing his passion for wine and his insight into what makes his wines so special.
The Painted Rock wines will be paired with a four-course dinner that will show them to their best advantage.

Laughing Stock Vineyards has opened their Futures Offering of Portfolio 2008, our signature Bordeaux-style blend. Only available for a limited time, Futures provides early subscribers with the option to secure orders of Portfolio before it is released to the public later this fall.
Portfolio is routinely recognized as one of Canada’s icon red wines (Vines Magazine, March/April 2009). This year’s vintage continues to showcase the best reds we grow with a blend of the classic Bordeaux varietals: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot. Due to historically low vineyard yields, the 2008 harvest was down 30%, thus this vintage will be more difficult to find upon release.
Recent barrel samplings reveal earthy, truffle and dark chocolate tones in the Merlot and Cabs and according to David, the Malbec tastes like a Cadbury fruit & nut bar. Early blending trials show an elegant and feminine vintage, more old world than new.
The Futures price is $35 per bottle (unchanged since we launched the winery in 2003), thus the program offers discounts from the fall public release price of $40.
You may place your Futures order for Portfolio 2008 here.
