Maricio: actually nordic is a classification that includes cross country. from the very link you mention, “Nordic skiing Olympic events are Cross country skiing, Ski jumping, Nordic combined, and biathlon.”

I could have certainly been more precise, but it is still correct. Whereas the People’s Republic of China definitely did not boycott and actually did participate that year.

Sorry about this, but Desmond is wrong as well, since the Athlete from Norway didn’t dominate Nordic skiing but country skiing (nordic skiing is a group of different events – country skiing included but not only that one. Ski jumping and biathlon are also nordic skiing events, which Bjorn Daehlie didn’t practiced). See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nordic_skiing for details

Desmond, you make a good point. I was a little confused and torn myself as on one hand, yes, it was Taiwan who boycotted, but they previously were competing as the ‘Republic of China’.

actually eddy is wrong. the people’s republic of china did not boycott the 1980, the republic of china (taiwan) did. there is a big difference there. mainland china was allowed to participate for the first time in 1980 as the prc, and this is why the roc boycotted.
