Home is Where the Food is

by paulkamon 11.05.2009

Fabulous video by Vancouver-based animator Jody Kramer (The Juki Museum) produced for the 100-Mile Diet Society.
Also, check out the Vancouver 100-Mile Diet Foodshed Map, to get a lovely visual of where our local food is coming from. Buy a copy of the map here.
Thanks to Jackie Connelly for the link. ~ PK

Food Hero

by Keith Talent 11.04.2009

The Times Online has a good quick interview with should-be-superstar Fergus Henderson in todays edition. I love him , he’s like the UK version of Alice Waters, but without the faint smell of bullshit new age spiritualism and goofy floppy hats. Have a quick look, even though he’s wrong about rice cookers.

Mission Hill Portfolio Tasting

by paulkamon 11.03.2009

When I was invited to taste the Mission Hill portfolio, I couldn’t help but think about the bargain bin at the local liquor store. What else exists between their innocuous stock wines and Oculus? The Shangri-La hosted a complete tasting that effectively changed my perception of this long standing vineyard and winery in the Okanagan.

From The Tastes Like Chicken Department

by Keith Talent 11.02.2009

Save the earth, eat a dog. Aside from a slight cop out in the last sentence, Jonathan Safran Foer makes the sensible suggestion that we should eat more dog, if in fact local and sustainable are principles  you really care about. He makes a pretty good case, if even the only objection we have is [...]

La Stella & Le Vieux Pin at Salt’s Cellar

by Katherine van der Gracht 11.02.2009

Monday night’s La Stella and Le Vieux Pin winery dinner had us all huddled up in Salt Tasting Room’s cozy cellar below Blood Alley. Salt’s underground lair is perhaps what makes their events so glorious: alongside the communal dining room table, are the contents of their showpiece walk-in cooler, temptingly displaying rows upon rows of [...]
