About the Playhouse Wine Festival
The Vancouver Playhouse International Wine Festival, Canada’s premier wine show, runs from April 19 to 25, 2010. The Playhouse Wine Festival is one of the biggest and oldest wine festival events in the world. The featured theme regions for 2010 will be Argentina and New Zealand with the global focus of Rosé. The festival features a week of special events including a gala auction, wine seminars, wine minglers, winery dinners, lunches and brunches at fine restaurants and hotels. The Playhouse Wine Festival is produced by the Vancouver Playhouse International Wine Festival Society, which has three mandates: provide an informative, educational and entertaining wine experience for consumers and trade; be a premier marketing opportunity for the wine industry and festival partners; and raise funds for the Playhouse Theatre Company. Since its inception in 1979, the festival has raised over $6.8 million to enable Western Canada’s leading theatre company to mount 209 productions and develop extensive community outreach and educational programs.

The Shore Club generously presents the Vancouver Playhouse International Wine Festival.  The Playhouse Wine Festival is sponsored by Wines of Argentina, New Zealand Wine, BC Liquor Stores, The Vancouver Sun, Vancouver Magazine and WineAccess.

IMMACULATE CONCEPTION: THE WHISKEY DINNER

Refinery-Logo-UD

’tis the season to drink a lot of whiskey… GOOD whiskey.

December 8th 2009 marks a very special evening.

The Refinery and Cask Strength present “Immaculate Conception” an evening dedicated to joys of whiskey and food.
Similar to the Whiskey 101 classes that local aficionado Andrew Starritt is known for, this event will combine Andrew’s unique talent in sourcing some of the most obscure whiskies (five for this event), while Refinery Chef Michael Carter creates a 5 course menu using whiskey in thoughtful ways. We will begin the evening with an award-winning whiskey cocktail by Refinery’s General Manager & Mixologist, Lauren Mote. This event is not for the faint-at-heart. There will be bundles of whiskey consumption, a sensory-overload, and a huge educational component.

Tickets are now available with a credit card at The Refinery, either in person or by email.

Last time we wrote to you we didn’t have all the detail for the wine maker dinner. Now that we know what wine we will be featuring. Please find attached all the detail.

To celebrate the origins of Tammi and Rob who are from the Netherlands, and match the great wines they will be pouring and presenting, we have designed a menu from the North of France (pour les chti’s quoi!).

We usually design our menus in English. This time we decided to keep it authentic (break out the Google translation kit), and also some of it does not translate.

Valerie will be happy to interpret and answer your questions; she was born and raised in the North of France near Vimy Ridge!

Please note that you need to call directly the restaurant to make a reservation Open Table will not display any availability.

NARAMATA JOINS CITTASLOW INTERNATIONAL

naramata-benchNovember 5, 2009, Naramata, BC – Discover Naramata is proud to announce that Naramata has been accepted as a member community of Cittaslow International.

Cittaslow (www.cittaslow.net) is an international organization formed in Orvieto, Italy in 1999 with the mandate to improve the quality of life in towns while resisting the fast lane, homogenized world seen in larger cities.  Celebrating and supporting diversity of culture and the specialties of a town are core Cittaslow values.  Born from the Slow Food movement (www.slowfood.com), Cittaslow’s main goal is to promote the philosophy of Slow Food to local communities and governments, applying the concepts of eco-gastronomy to everyday life.

In February 2009, the Discover Naramata Board agreed, in principle, to pursue the accreditation of Naramata as a Cittaslow.  After a lengthy application and assessment process, Naramata was recognized as a member of Cittaslow Canada, after the first and only other North American member town, Cowichan Bay, BC, was accredited in July of this year.  The official declaration will take place in Orvieto, Italy on November 28, 2009.

Discover Naramata (www.discovernaramata.com) was formed in 1999 by Naramata area businesses with the mandate “to encourage visitors to experience the existing charm and character of Naramata, while encouraging and supporting local business initiatives.”  Discover Naramata represents the business community of Naramata and the surrounding area including wineries, farms and retail/hospitality/tourism related businesses.
