Oliver, BC… In 2001, Tinhorn Creek Vineyards decided the time was right to craft a new series of wines and thus the Oldfield’s Collection (now called the Oldfield Series) was born. Tinhorn Creek celebrates this harvest season with the release of new Oldfield Series wines, a new vertical package and two winemaker dinners in collaboration with Manuel Ferreira and Le Gavroche restaurant. Saturday, October 10th, 2009 at 6:30pm at the winery enjoy a multi course dinner designed to complement the exceptional wines of the Oldfield’s Series – the 2006 Merlot, the 2006 Syrah and the 2008 2Bench, as well as other special Tinhorn Creek wines. Tickets are $110.00 inclusive.  Reservations are a must and can be made at www.tinhorn.com or call the winery toll free at 888-484-6467. If Oliver is not in your travel plans, Friday, November 6th, this dynamic duo does it all again, this time at Le Gavroche in Vancouver. Dinner at Le Gavroche is $95.00 per person. Please call 604-685-3924 to reserve your table.

The Oldfield Series began with the winery’s cornerstone varietal Merlot and has since expanded to include 2Bench, a blend of 5 estate grown white wines and more recently a Syrah. On October 1st, alongside the release of their 2006 Oldfield Series Merlot, Tinhorn Creek Vineyards is thrilled to release for the first time to the general public their 2006 Oldfield Series Syrah. A milestone, this release signifies growth within the winery as the past two vintages of Syrah were available exclusively to Tinhorn Creek’s Crush Club members due to limited availability.

Also being released on October 1 is a special vertical recounting the history of the Oldfield’s Collection/Oldfield Series Merlot. This six-vintage pack, containing a bottle each of 2001 Oldfield’s Collection Merlot (cork), 2001 Oldfield’s Collection Merlot (Stelvin), 2002 Oldfield’s Collection Merlot, 2003 Oldfield’s Collection Merlot, 2004 Oldfield’s Collection Merlot, 2005 Oldfield’s Collection Merlot and 2006 Oldfield Series Merlot, will be available for $250 through Tinhorn Creek Vineyards.  With only 100 for sale, mark your calendar and be sure to get yours while they last.

On the hillside overlooking vineyard, sagebrush, and the old gold mining creek that gave the winery its name, Tinhorn Creek Vineyards is located just south of Oliver B.C., in the famed Golden Mile wine growing district. As the number one winery destination, evoking classic south Okanagan terroir, Tinhorn Creek Vineyards offers an unrivalled visitor experience and wines that rank among the best in the world.

Happy Hour with Pertaringa Winery at R.TL on Wednesday, October 7th

R.TLCome and join us at 5pm at r.tl (1130 Mainland St. Vancouver) to sample and enjoy the wine from Pertaringa Winery and Erik Smith’s Canapés creation.  Meet Pertaringa’s International Brand Manager, Michael Wehrs, who will give an informative and entertaining talk about all aspects of Pertaringa wines and vineyard and offer tastings of his highly-accoladed wines.

Pertaringa is a small, family-owned, boutique winery situated in the McLaren Vale region of South Australia.  Owner, Geoff Hardy, is a pioneer of wine production and recipient of Australia’s “Vititculturist of the Year” award for his extensive work producing clones of grape vines best suited for Australia in his biodynamic vineyards.

Pertaringa Winery has produced award-winning wines for over 20 years. Although made in very small quantities they have received much recognition world-wide.   Recently the Pertaringa Shiraz was awarded five stars by London’s famous Decanter Wine Magazine.  The Wine Spectator from the US has also given both the Pertaringa Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz extremely high scores and Pertaringa’s Shiraz was chosen by Qantas Airlines to be served in their Business Class.

Pertaringa wines consistently and beautifully exemplify the winery’s philosophy of “reflecting the style of the McLaren Vale wine region using diverse environmental resources and viticultural experience”.

When is it ok to play with your food?  When you are studying the art of food styling!

foodie-photography(VANCOUVER, BC) –   Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts is pleased to bring back recognized culinary professional
and food stylist Lisa Golden Schroeder along with Vancouver food photographer Tracey Kusiewicz of Foodie
Photography for an intensive Master Food Styling and Photography Workshop.

With both demonstration and hands-on work, participants will learn the nuts and bolts of what it takes to become a
successful food stylist, ready to collaborate with professional photographers. Students will develop a commercial
assignment, from concept and pre-production planning to the final execution of a polished food photograph.

This intense weekend workshop will be held at the Institute from Friday, October 23rd to Sunday, October 25th,
2009
and includes:

Friday Evening Mixer: 2.5 Hour Session
Students gather at the Institute to meet each other and be welcomed by Lisa and Tracey. An overview of the
business of commercial food photography will be presented, along with an exploration of current trends in both
editorial and advertising. Lisa and Tracey will share their work and how they collaborate and communicate with
clients, emphasizing the process of bringing a client’s vision alive.

Day One (Saturday: 8 Hour Daytime Session)
Lisa will focus on food styling techniques, with demonstration and hands-on practice time. Students will break into
teams to develop under-camera assignments—meeting with Tracey and Lisa for pre-production planning. The day
includes a visit to the gorgeous farmer’s market on Granville Island to gather groceries and props for final projects.

Day Two
(Sunday: 8 Hour Daytime Session)
This will be the studio day, with a professional camera and lighting set-up. Each team will prepare food for their
assignment, with Lisa coaching them on plating and composition and Tracey working with them on the finer details
of how the camera sees their food. Lighting, camera angle, and other photography nuances will be explored and
explained. Each student will take home a disc with a high-resolution image they helped create.

Workshop Fees:  $975 + GST (includes instruction, all supplies, ingredients, high resolution photograph of finished
project and certificate of completion)
