Morton’s The Steakhouse in Vancouver (750 W Cordova St) closed its doors permanently last night.
The official statement:
Morton’s The Steakhouse is the leading fine dining steakhouse brand, earning our reputation over 31 years. We own and operate 77 steakhouses worldwide, and Morton’s is recognized as the place where top business leaders as well as celebrities and professional athletes frequent. Morton’s features USDA grain fed prime aged beef, the top 2% of all US beef available, along with its genuine Midwestern hospitality, which is second to none.
In this current economic environment, we made the very difficult decision to close the Vancouver restaurant. That restaurant originally opened in 2000, and today our company’s focus is finding premium locations in the cities where we operate.
Morton’s truly appreciates the dedication and hard work of all of the impacted employees and has offered assistance in a number of ways, including the opportunity to transfer to another Morton’s location, based on availability.
We want to truly recognize and thank our loyal Vancouver guests who supported us for so many years, and we look forward to their next dining visit at our other Morton’s steakhouses.

Oh, the Olympics are coming the Olympics are coming and life is going to be wonderful and great in British Columbia where we so arrogantly proclaim it to be better than every other place on the planet.
Business will thrive. Really, life is great.
Wait. Businesses are closing and leaving right before all that influx of money comes our way?
What does Morton’s know that no one else does?
The Morton’s closeure in Vancouver reminds me of the Ruth’s Chris debacle in Calgary 2 years ago. Times were good but Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse opened flat and plateaued very low; quite likely it’ll close as well. High priced fine dining now competes with very credible cusine from younger chefs who are redefining the restaurant landscape. Steakhouses being the most expensive and least capable of change will die out first regardless of economic ups & downs.
I wonder if they will be honouring the $250 gift certificate I purchased September 20th at a charity auction!!
that sucks michael. But if you ever need to travel to toronto, you will find a mortons in the dt core.
