Just one day shy of their 38th anniversary, the long-standing Cannery Restaurant has officially announced that they will be closing their doors at the end of March after the 2010 Olympics.

From the press release:

SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts announced today that The Cannery Seafood Restaurant in Vancouver will close at the end of March 2010, prior to the April 2010 expiry of the lease with the Port Metro Vancouver.

Representatives from SilverBirch met with the Cannery employees today to inform them of the closure.  The restaurant closure is a result of the Port Metro Vancouver’s decision in November 2007 not to extend the lease beyond April of 2010.The restaurant will continue to operate business as usual until the end of March 2010. Several unique events are being planned and will be announced in the coming months to celebrate 38 years of serving Vancouver.

For those who have never been to this legendary restaurant, I highly encourage you to go before it is all over. Take in one of the best restaurant views in the city and enjoy some great fresh seafood and don’t forget to buy a few bottles of their incredible lobster oil. ~ PK

I have enjoyed my most memorable dining experiences at the Cannery. I love it there.

I am so sorry to hear it is closing its doors. It was the first restaurant I ever dined in when I first arrived in this beautiful city. I went right from the airport upon my arrival right to the restaurant for a very special dinner.

My sister told me this was one of her favorite places and her husband one evening enjoyed a hidden cognac and a cigar on the dock after dinner under the stars next to the calm shimmering water of the harbour. It was naughty but so very special.

We had clients enjoy a surprise tug boat synchronized water performance during their dining experience one lunch hour and we told them we had set it up. We had not set this up. The performance that day was for another group who were contemplating buying tug boats and we just happened to be there at the time. The Cannery, the staff, the salmon and the ambiance will be greatly missed by my friends and family.
