BC Brew Review: Tin Whistle Peach Cream Ale

by BC Brew on June 30, 2009

Tin Whistle Peach Cream Ale

With summer upon us, lighter, fruity beers are natrually popular. Of the lineup available from Pentictons’ Tin Whistle Brewing, the Peach Cream Ale is their top-selling beer. Given their location in the heart of BC’s fruit-growing region, this is fitting. They could carve out a niche for themselves producing fruit beer or classic styles enhanced with fruit, such as their Cherry Chocolate Porter.

Tin Whistle Peach Cream Ale is a light amber, slightly hazy beer with a moderate amount of carbonation and a bright white head. Made with peach and apricot concentrate, these fruits, along with a more generic ale fruitiness from the yeast, dominate the nose. There is no appreciable hop aroma or hop bitterness in the taste.

Peach Cream Ale is a very accessible beer, light tasting, clean, and refreshing with sufficient body for it not to feel watery. It should not be served too cold, though, as the lower temperature suppresses the malt and fruit sweetness, bringing forth an almond-like astringency in the finish that is not present at the proper temperature.

Peach Cream Ale pairs well with lighter summer fare, such as salads incorporating apricots or peaches — fresh or juice used in the vinaigrette, chicken or turkey dishes, jack cheese, and desserts, such as peach chiffon pie, peach cobbler, peach shortcake, and Sacher torte.
