A Post So Boring…

by Keith Talent on April 28, 2009

…you’d swear we’re being paid to run it. We’re not. This, in spite of all appearances to the opposite is not advertorial. We just don’t want to let the local dailies get too far ahead in the race to present press-releases as actual news. So all that said, who is excited about tomorrows Whole Foods opening at Cambie and Eighth?

From the website; “This is a grocery store?  Yes… and much more.” Including a drive through oil change centre, blood bank, celestial observatory, Montessori doggy daycare, wormhole to other dimensions, site of the 2010 luge run, swine flu vaccination centre, headquarters of the Catholic Church (while the Vatican undergoes renovations,) site of Superbowl XLIII, ten screen multiplex, control centre of the large hadron collider at CERN, site of the decisive battle in the defeat of the Nazi’s in WW2 and MORE!. Actually not, it’s just a grocery store, sorry for trying to sex it up.

“When you step through our doors for the very first time, it’s like biting into something fresh, exciting and uniquiely [sic] delicious!” I’ve tried, it’s not. It’s like going into an IGA that’s slightly nicer than average. I’m as boring as anyone on earth, hell I think playing golf is exciting, but I get no jolt walking into Whole Foods.

“We’re passionalte [sic] about great tasting food that’s good for you – organic when we can, local wherever possible, and always natural.” So you’re still going to need to go to Safeway for your soylent green, they only sell natural foods. ” From tea bags to t-bones, we have everything you need.” As long as it begins with T. And has vaguely sexual connotations and can be used as the punchline in a schoolyard joke.

Whole Paycheck has finally hit Vancouver. Were the locusts supposed to be before or after, I can’t remember?

the 50% off sale at cambie and 16th was worth it. I know in the end W.P. will end up with all that money back by the end of the month. But 1/2 price is 1/2 price.

I`m actually just wondering what (sic) actually stands for. I`ve known for years what it means, but I`ve never understood why.

Is it what you feel like after you walk out of the palce? sic?

But seriously, what does it stand for?

Yay, Whole Paycheck is in my new neighbourhood too! I actually like the Whole Paychecks in the US; only been to the one on the north shore once; What I like about them is that they often source things that are quite difficult to find in Vancouver. Sometimes the home gourmand strives to be a gourmet, and needs the flown in fresh vanilla pods from Uganda!

Pedant here Stephan. Sic means as it appears. It is usually used to indicate an error in the text that is being cited, so that the person citing the text is not blamed for the error. In the above, Keith doesn’t want you to think he can’t spell uniquely or passionate, but he wants you to know that whoever wrote the press release can’t spell common words.

ok, so michi sushi is there – owner kenny cho (and good friend of mine) is totally stoked – he says “it’s a little surreal” over a sandwich with me at lunch today, but he’s excited nonetheless. kenny will celebrate michi sushi’s 1 year anniversary on june 9.

on another note, eden hertzog – owner of new moon kitchen, has secured a contract at whole foods on cambie and in west van for her cookies – gourmet, and all natural vegan, certified kosher parve, 100% organic spelt flour, and an ingredient list of 10 or less items; dairy, egg, peanut and nut free. super cool.

check eden out while she does her demos for samples at cambie today and tomorrow, and friday in west van. http://www.newmoonkitchen.com

… ya, i’m done now. :)

The place was slammed today-for no good reason other than monkey see/monkey do I suppose.

And Yes I swung from a few branches myself….
