If you overcome your fear of new things and hit the more inside button, you’ll discover the fifty best restaurants in the world and see a chart that’ll keep vegetarians sleepless for days.
Found via Mark Bittman’s almost meth addict with a speed problem number of updates Twitter feed was this graphic. Some might see it as a horrifying display of our grotesque dependence on cheap meat, others will see a mouthwatering parade of flesh.
The S. Pellegrino sponsored Worlds Fifty Best Restaurants were announced. Unsurprisingly El Bulli won, more surprising Canada doesn’t manage a spot in the top 100. Then again given the lack of judging criteria available only the least cynical among us will conclude there isn’t a tiny amount of the awards truly recognizing excellence by restaurant public relations directors.

Although people may put this list down I would have to say it isn’t THAT bad…at least this year Japanese restaurants were finally included and the number of UK restaurants was reduced…And unfourtunatly there are still no Canadian restaurants but perhaps we’re just not good enough…yet…
If you look at the jury – they had one guy to cover all of Canada and the Mid West US (ie Chicago). Not suprisingly – Hotel Dining dominates much of the list – the oddest beinng No. 70 – Wasabi at the Mumbai Taj Hotel. Here’s the PR.
WASABI BY MORIMOTO : (Recreated at the Rooftop Rendezvous). | » The Taj Mahal Palace & Tower , Mumbai
Wasabi by Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto featured in the prestigious Condé Nast Traveller “Hot Tables List 2005″. The restaurant offers the finest Japanese Sakes and Sushi Bar. A dramatic interactive Tepanyaki counter, with separate grills for vegetarian and non-vegetarian cuisine offers set menus and chef’s sampler menus
Really? Japanese in Mumbai? Clearly alot of expats on the list.
