Newly-elected US president and currently the most famous man alive, Mr. Barack Obama, has come and gone after a brief 7 hour visit to the Great White North, but not before we gave him a taste of the goods, as half of his time was spent enjoying a decadent lunch at the Senate Speaker’s quarters in the Parliment Buildings.
The Quails’ Gate Chenin Blanc was served on the menu along with Pacific Coast yellowfin tuna, and maple and miso cured Nunavut wild arctic char. Proprietor Tony Stewart was elated by the news, calling it “an historic honour for Quails’ Gate” and “an endorsement of the highest regard.”
The other wines on the menu were the Stratus Vineyards Red from the Niagara region, which was served with the main course of Applewood Smoked Plains Bison and La Face Cachee de la Pomme Neige ice wine from Quebec that was offered with a Wild blueberry and partridgeberry compote. The pairing for the Beavertail he picked up at ByWard Marketon on the way to the airport is unknown. We welcome your suggestions. ~ PK
