Gordon Ramsay Loves Araxi

by paulkamon on February 11, 2009

gordon-ramsey_cbcOn the CBC show “This Hour With George Stroumboulopoulos“, England’s most famous and talented potty-mouth, TV slut and celebrity chef, Sir Gordon Ramsay recently named Araxi Restaurant + Bar in Whistler as the “best restaurant in Canada”.  While in Georgie’s hot-seat, he answered 20 rapid fire questions in 2 minutes, taking a few stabs at fellow countryman Jamie Oliver (also rumoured to be definitely maybe possibly not sure absolutely to be opening a restaurant in Vancouver).  Smart money says Mr. Ramsay will go to Toronto as it keeps him closer to his NYC restaurants and TV cameras crews. ~ PK

Isn’t Hell’s Kitchen taped in Hollywood? And isn’t the London in West Hollywood? Not that I expect Ramsay to open something in town, but claiming he might do Toronto because of his NYC connections seems a bit presumptuous.

Yes, you are correct. Presumptuous of me indeed. I really should watch more TV. Nonetheless, I still think he’s going to open in Toronto first, call it a wild nonsensical hunch.

Maybe I am naive, but I suspect that someone at Ramsay’s level of fame and marketing power would not endorse ANYTHING without money being exchanged — or a new partnership being developed.

he’d be the top restauant in Toronto if he went there no? In Vancouver he has to compete with DB / JGV and you can even add West / Fuel?

Weston: Toronto has good restaurants too.

I love Vancouver food, and overall the dining scene is probably preferred to that of T.O just from a layout point of view — I find Toronto places very spread out.

But in terms of quality, especially the places I went in December, it is a push. We think we are lucky with all of these NYC chefs coming to town, etc… but hands down the best new resto I have been to was Note Bene in TO, opened by a bunch of Canadians.

Hell’s kitchen is a joke; embarrassing showcase of untalented wanna be chefs. He’s a dolt.

He’s a couple golden arches away from being a franchise.

Weston: I think you meant to say “In Vancouver he has to compete with West/Fuel and you can even add DB/JGV.” Or, at least, I hope you did.
