MARKET By Jean-Georges Is Open

by paulkamon on January 29, 2009

entranceThe newest and tallest building in Vancouver, really just a ‘mid-rise’ when compared to other metropolitan centers around the world, is a brilliant glass and concrete expression of Vancouver’s youthful, affluent ambition and coming of age. Standing tall like a gleaming runway model at the base of Thurlow, Alberni and Georgia Street, the building’s upscale anchor tenants have begun putting out their welcome mats and warm inviting smiles.  Urban Fare, Shangri-La Hotel, and the highly-anticipated Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s MARKET are now open for business and Vancouver will never be the same. Pics inside…

Maybe it is just me, a little sensitive and anxious after the holidays, but today I felt something I have not felt since Expo 86 brought the world to us and us to the world. As a born and bred Vancouverite, it has been incredible watching this city grow and evolve into its own unique identity: a gorgeous, young Canadian city on the verge of stardom.  And today it really feels like our supermodel/actress of a hometown has just turned legal drinking age, has lifted the keys to daddy’s Porsche, and is ready and willing to party with the big cats.  Watch out, things are about to get more interesting. ~ PK

Loved the keys to daddy’s porsche bit.

Our offices are right across the street and have been waiting for this to get finished for a very long time. Hope it’s open to the ‘drinks after work’ crowd as well as pasting the city with some (212) flair.

Looking great. I’ll have to check it out next week. Downtown Vancouver is getting pretty hip with this, the new Urban Fare, and the opening of Brooks Brothers and Sephora this Spring. It’s starting to feel like Hong Kong without the monsoons -)

Too bad for all the doom and gloom depression stuff or else we would really be booming

Just went to the Market here in Paris and it was delicious. But like any restaurant in Paris, it is very pricey! Can’t wait to come back to Vancouver and try this Market out without having to break the bank!
