Incendio Fire

I went by Incendio in Gastown this evening to survey the damage after an early morning fire burned up a substantial section of the restaurant.  Owner, Dean Mallel invited me inside to take a few pictures during the inspection.

oven1The fire is still under investigation to determine the cause and to further access the overall damage to the space and the surrounding building.  Thankfully, no one was hurt in the fire.

^The kitchen looked to be heavily water and smoke damaged.

After the inspection comes the insurance agent, after that, we might then get a realistic idea of when Incendio will be back up and running.  Certainly a blow to Gastown residents looking to fulfill fire brick oven pizza desires for the next little while.

First Habit Lounge goes down, now Incendio?  Damn you fire! ~ PK

Bad news but hopewfully the insurance agent and investigations will be quick and Incendio will re-open asp. It’s been an incon for us in Gastown for the past 13 years. I wish Dean and the staff the best.

I know from personal experience, that recovering from this is never a quick process. Even if the repairs are minimal, as soon as an insurance company and city hall are involved, you will have massive slow down.
I would say 6 months if they’re lucky. Up to 2 years if they’re unlucky.

Could certainly do it faster if they don’t try to claim insurance-but looking at the pictures, I think the damage is to extensive to go that route.

What a pity. I have spent many a winters evening being warmed by their hospitality an excellent pizza and the brick oven. Best wishes to Dean, Donny Christine and all the staff…….Hope we see you back soon.

Damn!

Incendio is always a good stand-by for us in the Strathcona neighbourhood. Luckily, there’s Campagnolo to fill the gap…!

Yeh, cause god forbid we wouldn’t want to inconvenience you Jer! Oh, wait. People are loosing their livelihood!

that is really a shame. i’ve been a big fan of incendio for quite some time.

although a bit of a hike, pizza afficiandos would be well-served (no pun intended) hitting up lombardo’s on smithe or on commercial. both are fantastic!

My fav pizzeria.
Wish all the staff quick recovery. Perhaps the company can hold off on opening new Stella’s on Cambie (old Tomato location) & instead speed up the Incendio’s revival? The Burrard location does not compare in atmosphere & service to this location.
ALL THE BEST!

This is really unfortunate, hopefully they will be able to bring it back, better that ever.

Good luck to you guys, I’ll be eagerly looking forward to slice in the future.
