I’m Not The Only One That Loves Trader Joe’s

A charming fan-made ad for Trader Joe’s. Someone that loves TJ’s as much as I do. And bossa nova, it’s like all my enthusiasms rolled into one giant ball of goodness.

One day I was taking a photo of a primitive but lovely hand-drawn chalk sign when a manager came running over to tell me cameras aren’t allowed in Trader Joe’s. Well, he didn’t say anything about cell phones so I decided then and there to make a commercial for TJ’s on my Treo. Up until now they haven’t done any TV advertising at all so I have no idea if this is the kind of thing they would like.

See resultant video here. You may need to disable your popup blocker.  If you’ve been to Trader Joe’s you’ll get most of the references, if you never have you’ll get to see what all the fuss is about, (hint; It’s basically booze, plus foods that go well with booze.)

BC Brew Review: Fuller’s Vintage Ale 2008

fullersvintage_web

Beer and patience aren’t words you would normally associate with one another. With an old ale like Fuller’s Vintage Ale, however, controlling your impulse to open this beer will pay dividends like a maturing investment. Its high alcohol and the yeast added to the bottle mean that you can cellar this ale for years after its best before date. Like a fine wine, this beer will improve with age. You could track this over a decade by buying a half dozen bottles, opening one immediately and then one every two years. More inside…

Mexico is the new Scotland

After a long, uphill battle, it seems that my beloved Tequila is starting to gain a little respect up here in the Scotch-and-Vodka-lovin’ Pacific North-West. While still in miserably short supply, there seems to be a growing  awareness of the wonder that is offered in the form of a good 100% Agave Tequila. Hopefully before too long the LDB will begin to offer us some of the truly good stuff coming out of Jalisco State. The Milagro single barrel is a good start (as of this printing there are 133 bottles left in the province). C’mon guys, there’s like, 700 brands of Tequila being produced right now, surely we can do better than 20? We’ve been deprived of the good stuff for far too long. Jose Cuervo’s Familia de la Reserva might be a gesture of good faith to start, waddya say?

MARKET By Jean-Georges Is Open

entranceThe newest and tallest building in Vancouver, really just a ‘mid-rise’ when compared to other metropolitan centers around the world, is a brilliant glass and concrete expression of Vancouver’s youthful, affluent ambition and coming of age. Standing tall like a gleaming runway model at the base of Thurlow, Alberni and Georgia Street, the building’s upscale anchor tenants have begun putting out their welcome mats and warm inviting smiles.  Urban Fare, Shangri-La Hotel, and the highly-anticipated Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s MARKET are now open for business and Vancouver will never be the same. Pics inside…
