UPDATED: March 20/09

The former site of the iconic Tomato Fresh Food Cafe, a prominent casualty of the Cambie RAV line expansion, which also had a short run as a New Orleans Diner called Dadeo, is being renovated and reborn as the second location of Stella’s Tap and Tapas Bar.

According to restaurateur Dean Mallel of the Incendio Group of Restaurants, they will be serving lunch, dinner and weekend brunch and will be keeping many of the same elements of the Drive location with the addition of a few new ones.  The bar/lounge will feature “a big wood bar, distressed antique floors…a fireplace and lots of stone work.”  The dining room will have a “Parisian bordello” look and the restaurant will offer an expanded wine and cocktail program as well as a deep Belgium beer list with a few surprises, including “internationally-sourced exclusives”.  The menu will be value-based and will focus on fresh, seasonal and local.

The new location is scheduled to open on May 1st.  Cambie scores! ~ PK

Nice to see that Cambie is bouncing back just fine and will do great with the new rail system and eating estblishments like this.

I am stoked to hear about this. The moment I saw Dadeo’s closed all I wanted in that space was a place for good food, good beer, and fire place. I can’t wait to check it out!

The incendio boys seem to have great knack for picking superb locations. I am sure this one will turn out great as well. Looking forward to being able to saunter home after a few bevys and am intersted to see what their menu brings.

Oh man, I just saw the sign on the door today! I am definitely delighted about this. I can’t heap more praise on the location on the Drive. Excellent location, excellent establishment. Glad to see it expanding!

Can’t wait to check out a new place on Cambie. Now get rid of a few more of the greasy spoons and we got ourselves a neighbourhood!

How cool is that?

And I thought that the last four digits of their phone number spelling ‘BIER’ was enough!

Great news.

Talked to Dean today. He says that the room is almost complete and that they are waiting on a furniture shipment to arrive then final inspection.

May 1st is the new opening date.

What does a Parisian bordello look like?

“The menu will be value-based”…I don’t see it. The prices seem to be the same as the Commercial Dr. location, so what’s different?
