A taste for traditional cider (not the cloying, over-carbonted varieties) seems to be making a slow comeback in B.C., reflected in a growing number of imports and domestic brands. Given the province’s history of apple production, there is certainly room for growth and the development of greater variety.

Gaymers is a moderately-carbonated, medium sweet commercial cider from one of the world’s largest cider producers. As you might expect, it’s very clean and easy-drinking, without pronounced dryness, sourness, off flavours or aromas. Lightness on the palate, however, also means lightness in character, which is reflected in a watery finish.
As a mass-market beverage, Gaymers Original Cider seems mainly designed to be consumed on its own. Nevertheless, it could pair well with a variety of pork and light poultry dishes incorporating apple to enhance the flavour of the cider. A mild cheddar would also work well, acknowledging the fact that both cider and cheese have a related history in Somerset.

Any chance with will get the Irish cider from Magner’s? I’ve only seen it in Ontario both bottled and draught.
Spoke to the manager at Brewery Creek. He doesn’t expect to see Magner’s any time soon. Sorry.
