The Mighty Bloody Mary or the Caesar... a drink based on the garnish. I feel jipped if I don't get some sort of green "thing" in my drink, or celery salt on the rim. Mind you, the celery is often substituted for some other "green" thing. Not sure why? That bitterness goes a long way. Only one exaple of course.

Like Mark said, if it is there only to make it "look" pretty........... PASS!!!!

If the garnish doesn't positively affect the taste of the beverage, it shouldn't be there.

'nuff said.

True, Seamus, true, but I jump at any chance to name-check the Pink Gin.

GREAT blog, by the way, I'm a fan. I was just in Shanghai for the first time this summer actually, and duly impressed by the cocktail culture there. Not to mention the Art Deco architecture.

I think the Death in the Gulf Stream is a little more than just a 'Pink Gin with Garnish'. You have lime juice in there, not just lime peel. It seems like another of Hemingway's acidic and minimally sweetened drinks. I say 'minimally sweetened' because the use of Oude Genever adds a touch more sweetness than would be there if you used London Dry.
