The Province has a letter to the editor today thanking a random stranger for emulating a stupid ass Kevin Spacey movie in a Burnaby Cactus Club on Tuesday. It’s a phenomena that allegedly sweeps stateside Starbucks every holiday season. Only it is generally started by the stores themselves and then the local media is called in to provide free PR via a feel good puff piece.
So assuming there actually is some impressionable Christmas freak wandering Burnaby casual fine dining chains paying for strangers meals because Kevin Spacey owns a far larger slice of their mind share than could ever be considered healthy; And the restaurant played no role in the letter to the editor of The Province we should ask ourselves, are Florida Starbucks really worthy our emulation? Should we also feint an interest in Nascar, ‘possum recipes and religious fundamentalism? Southern Florida is not generally considered a hot bed of rational behaviour.
I have no idea whether this bad idea will catch on, just to hedge my bets I’m dining at The Pear Tree tomorrow night.

A good way to hedge your bets since the same thing happened to my sister at the Pear Tree a few months ago (this time, completely anonymous).
Many moons ago when I worked for Earls there was a regular guest who dined with us what almost every day and every once in awhile he would take care of the bill for a random young family having dinner. The only stipulation was that he remained anonymous and he usually left before them. I like random acts of kindness but i really like people not looking for anything in return. If this is a media attempt, karma will get them.
