Gourmet Makes MFK Fisher Available Online

by Keith Talent on November 26, 2008

Gourmet Magazine has made available MFK Fisher’s “An Alphabet For Gourmets“, as originally published in the magazine as a serialization in the late 40’s.  I admit to not being a huge fan, heretical I know. I find her an oversexed precursor to Maureen Dowd. Yuck. Or maybe Maureen Dowd has ruined Mary Frances for me. It’s a chicken/egg conundrum. Maybe they are both Carrie Bradshaw harbingers- but smart. Regardless, I recognize I’m in the minority, so spend some time reading her quasi-intellectual one note yearnings and ability to almost fetishize something as unerotic as a ham sandwich.

I have a bunch of MFK Fisher and Elizabeth David books – still tremendously entertaining to read and relevant to cooking today.

MFK Fisher used to travel by freighter – much like HK Dave does. Something I’d like to try doing when I have a few spare weeks on my hands.
