Rooftop Restaurant For Yaletown?

Opus rooftop

UPDATE: Sunday, November 9th

The public hearing to determine the fate of the proposed OPUS Vancouver “rooftop restaurant” continues on Tuesday, Nov. 18th at 6 p.m. at City Hall.

———————————

The Opus Hotel has a business meeting with Vancouver City Hall today at 6 pm (Nov 7th) to review their application for a “250 seat, luxury, world-class restaurant…” on the rooftop of the property.  They are asking for supporters to join them at this public hearing to help them with their appeal.

Call me cynical, but the last time I remember the average Vancouverite getting off their duffs for a cause was to protest Rogers (you suck!) reverse billing policy.  It was almost a riot, but alas, it wasn’t about hockey so nothing was smashed.  Even our most recent federal election had the lowest turnout in recent history.

Nonetheless, fighting for your right to party sounds like a good cause and worthy of someones free time on a rainy Friday night.  And Yaletown really is the perfect place for a rooftop restaurant, especially during the summer.  I wonder if they will allow all those yappy little toy dogs on the roof?

Doesn’t the new Yaletown earl’s, one block from the Opus, have a big rooftop terrace? Seems to me that if earl’s can get one, no reason for Opus not to… not that I would ever assume that logic would enter into City Hall.

Earl’s does not have a roof top patio. Rumour has it that this was just a rumour.

I was speak at City Hall in suport of this but the date has been changed a few times due to the number of people slated to speak.

It might get bumped again. There is a few locals to speak against it as well.

In the big picture, really not a big deal, but some of the local residents are mobilizing against it.

But will it improve the view from my kitchen window? I could be in favor of having a variety of roofscapes :-)
