Here we go my first ever blog! The Allegretto was harvested 5.6 tons which breaks down to 1.3 ton per acre. This gave us 120/ 30lb picking bins for sorting. 30 bins per skid averaged a weight of 450 kilos.

My day started at 6am with work getting underway at 11am and started with a small problem, the sorting table was vibrating resulting in a deafening sound. Creative ideas were discussed as to how to stop this which included bungee cords; but in the end the chute was removed and bins were placed around the end of the table to catch any wayward grapes.

With our sorting crew running late vision’s of I Love Lucy in the chocolate factory came to mind. The crew arrived giving us a total of 14 bodies and resulted in an average sorting speed average of 1 1/2 hours per 1 ton.

The grapes look good! The brix level is 26 1/2, stems are elongated with ripe seeds showing the best flavours yet in 3 years considering the kind of weather we had this year. So far so good but what a freaking long day this will be!!
