My test to see if someone would drink porter or stout is to ask them if they like chocolate. Why? Because the dark roasted malts used for those styles of beer often give them a discernible chocolate flavour. As chocolate is a favourite ingredient in desserts, it should come as no surprise that stout is a beer suitable with, or as, dessert. It could be as simple as adding a scoop of vanilla ice cream to an Old Yale Sasquatch Stout or using a North Coast Old Rasputin in a Russian Imperial Stout Cheesecake.

It’s words like this that make me wish I spoke any language but English. And here I’ve been such a fool to believe that foodie was the most offensive term in the culinary world. No, gastrosexual makes foodie look like the coolest thing ever by comparison. It makes me want to find the exact opposite of being a gastrosexual, and be that.
Take a quiz to find out if you are a gastro. It will also test your tolerance of poorly written ad copy, irritating flash webpages and suss out if you need to add a line of ready made curry sauces to your pantry. To be fair I grew tired of the interface prior to completing the quiz, good thing too as if it said I was, I’d have my pots and pans on ebay already.
