OK, we are blogging newbies, but thought it would be fun to bring this year’s harvest at Laughing Stock Vineyards to you with a “harvest blog” hosted by our friends at Urban Diner so you (and we!) can check back and see what adventures and mishaps occurred during this vintage. There’s been fun and frolic in the past including deer hunting on the crush pad, mog-free sorting and even marriage proposals.
If any of you have any influence on the weather gods, start praying for sunshine! Normally at this time of year, we are avidly preparing for harvest by netting the vineyard, doing brix sampling and cleaning tanks. However, the combination of a late spring and a cool couple of weeks to end our August has delayed things by about 7 to 10 days. A good September can make or break a season, so now we hope for one of those amazing Okanagan autumns where the sun shines every day even though the tourists have all left.
It’s an interesting time of year for us as we are looking backwards and forwards at the same time. Think about it. We are just releasing our 2006 vintage of the Portfolio, which after two years in the process now encapsulates what was happening in the vineyard in 2006. And today, we are gearing up for harvest of the 2008 vintage which won’t be released until 2010. Grow, pick, crush, drink, repeat. Stay tuned….
