How Screwed Is Whistler This Week?

by admin on July 30, 2008

I’ve just heard on the CBC news that the rock slide was worse that initially thought, and that the Sea to Sky will be closed for at least five days (according to Whistler’s mayor). If there are any Whistler restaurant folks out there, please fill us in on what that means for business in the comment field below.

It’s also the Canadian BBQ Championships up there this weekend.

Shit, I was inching along that highway for five hours on Monday after the Pemberton Festival. Scary. Lucky it wasn’t when it was gridlocked this weekend.

Feeling the effects here, I just recieved a call from the restaurant (La Rua) not to come in tonight or tomorrow! Supposed to be judging the BBQ & wine pairing this wellend. Will have to see what’s happening with that!

This just betters our chances to win the big dough, and the trip to Napa and the trip to Jamaica

The aftermath has “Wiley Coyote” written all over it. How much did you pay him Nwyles??

Thankfully no one at press time was injured or killed and it did not happen *time shifting here” during the olympics.

Neil, when do I get paid?

A.

Just heard from my friend at Araxi. The restaurant is dead. No deliveries today, but tomorrow the delivery trucks will come by way of the Caribou highway, a ten hour drive.

Was going to head up for the BBQ Championships…change of plans I guess. Let’s all pray there’s no one under that small mountain…’cause there really isn’t anyway to know for sure for days.

At least the village will be blissfully free of “bangers” from Surrey this week-end.

It is with a heavy heart that I have to tell you that we will not be going to Whistler for the competition. The truck and tailer was already packed and all of the meat is in hand, 20 bags of coal and families and my dog were all ready to go.

Oh, and my hotel reservation is now cancelled, without penalty :)

Shitty.

I was hopeful, with the road crews showing us how they could get the job done, just like a dress rehersal for a potential Olympic issue, but that is not to be the case.

The long trip one way was a possibily, but to do it both ways, not likely.

More time to practice for next year.

My heart goes out to all the bizz at the mountains.

Barely recovering from Pemberton, and now this….

So sorry :(

Hugs.

Sad that you’re getting your news from the CBC. ;)

Being stuck in the big smoke for a week is expensive! I have to go out for coffee, and meet for lunches and there is so many restaurants to visit and bar openings… im exhausted.
