Le Faux Bourgeois Coming To East Van

I just LOVE that headline…

Stephan Gagnon (formerly the co-owner of Gastown’s Jules Bistro) and Andreas Seppelt (Gord Martin’s partner at Go Fish) have taken over the old Vong Gac location at 663 East 15th (Fraser and Kingsway) and are busily setting up a 50 seat, dinner-only French bistro with a long, 15 seat bar.

The name? Le Faux Bourgeois.

Further details after the leap…

They’ve hired on chef Tina Fineza to set up the menu and train the kitchen for the first several months (don’t worry, she’s still at the Flying Tiger, too). I spoke to her on the phone today and she is very excited about the new venture, especially since she gets to play with ingredients that aren’t Asian for a change. She was getting misty over sweetbreads, bone marrow, veal stock, and the classical like. And now, so am I.

Opening day is slated for mid-July.

Wow. I’ve had the pleasure to get to know all 3 of them, and that’s going to an amazing restaurant.
Nice work guys!

Nice! I hope they’re open late. I’m always looking for a place to nosh after work. Sick of getting balsamic glaze all over myself at Bin.

James Iranzad June 17, 2008 at 7:05 am

Mmmm…. sweetbreads.

Interesting location. I’ve always thought that that triangle would be a great place for some higher-end fare.

I’ve also had the pleasure ot get to know all 3 and have the spots on my liver to prove it. Can’t wait to add a few more, gentlemen. Finally something up-scale to further elevate the ‘hood.

From Pho to Faux — is this deliberate irony?

open yet?

I’ve had no communication. Nor have I asked or heard. One to look forward, I think, and a potential invitation to other young restaurateurs to consider that neighbourhood.

Doesn’t look anywhere near ready . Wonder where the Vong Gac great neons got to .

I’m super excited to hear about Les Faux Bourgeois coming to our community. I look forward to supporting them! I waked by today and the neighbour told me they were going to open in a couple of weeks. I hope to see them open by Labour Day.

Wow, I can’t wait to visit this new restaurant at McAuley Park. Please let the neighbourhood know when you’re open. We’ll be there!

Knightafter August 20, 2008 at 8:04 pm

It’s a north vietnamese neighbourhood

There used to be an Aristocrat restaurant across the street many years ago.

I can’t wait to try this out and to WALK there. As much as I love my noodles and nigiri, I’m ready for more variety of food in the neighbourhood.

I walked by yesterday, they say they hope to be open by the end of the week. That would be Sept 7th…?

Went last night for drinks and snacks. Fantastic interior – reminds me a bit of Aurora. Great menu to check out in the upcoming months: cassoulet, charcuterie, steak frites…

shelome September 14, 2008 at 9:14 am

Can’t stop thinking about how great this restaurant is . congrats….

Raul September 24, 2008 at 8:00 pm

They’re open now, but I haven’t checked them out yet. Will do soon, though!

Mel December 10, 2008 at 2:53 pm

I hear it’s great but they don’t answer their phone and, when they do, it’s fully booked. If you leave them a message, they don’t call back. They also tell you that a number of tables are kept for walk-ins but wasn’t the case when we walked by. hmn…

Trying it tonight! I left a message during their couple days off to make a reso, and they called me back the same day! :)

Went last night with a friend. Fantastic food – goose paté, salade de betterave (no goat cheese), salmon entre, ling cod w/ chanterelles au jus. All the food was wonderfully prepared, wine was fine and well-priced, the service excellent despite a full house. Only negative was a table of gaggling women raising the noise level to 40% of the Bistrot Bistro (and that’s pretty loud!) Still, we could talk and be heard. We’ll be back soon!
