The July/August EAT Hits The Streets

The July/August issue of EAT Magazine, voted Best Food Publication at last year’s Urban Diner Awards (and one of my employers :-), is now out in distribution and available cover to cover online. It’s a goodie. Lots of restaurant reviews, farm to table features, a fine interview with prawn fisherman Steve Johansen, my feature on dining in Tofino, and much more.

Happy reading.

A Plague Of Crickets

I mean, wow. The media has gone bonkers over the addition of crickets to Vij’s menu. The Vancouver Sun has published one, two, three stories on it in today’s paper alone. Mia Stainsby, who wrote them all, opens one of them with a chirpy, telling line:

You could say this story has legs.

Yes, you could say that. In a fever dream, I could imagine the following conversation happening in the Earls boardroom this morning:

“Well boys, what do you think?”

“The costing is right.”

“But will our customers go for it?”

“How big are cricket wings?”

“What about taste?”

“I don’t see how that matters…”

God help us all.
