Lumiere To Close Prematurely Tomorrow

by admin on May 31, 2008

BREAKING: From what I’ve heard directly from staff (not a frigate bird among them), Lumiere owner David Sidoo had given notice to his employees for a June 20th closure of the restaurant so that it could undergo renovations (like Feenies) for DB Bistro Moderne, due to open at some point in the Fall.

Sadly, I’ve just been told that Mr. Sidoo has now informed his staff that the restaurant will instead close tomorrow (June 1st), effectively throwing them out of work 20 days earlier than they had prepared for or anticipated. So much for loyalty…

Since the new poll in the right column suggests that 10% of our readership are restaurateurs, I’m sure some of you will be heading down to Lumiere tonight to poach the staff pay your last respects. Don’t forget to tip well.

Why am I not surprised?

What about Scott the manager? Is he gone too or will he be staying?

What a joke. I don’t get Sidoo at all. The partnership with Boulud made me think he had some business acumen, but this shatters that myth. I hope any one who considers working at any of Sidoos new places realizes he lacks basic loyalty and honor. His word doesn’t mean much to me at least.

And I doubt dB will open on schedule, as I don’t think much work has really been done in the space. Mr. Sidoo should pull back and have Dinex run the new ventures.

Face it, David is not a restaurateur, he is a deep pocket with connections. He should just sign the checks and shut the fuck up. Let the passionate professionals make the magic happen. Some very wonderful people put in immense effort to keep Feenie’s, and Lumiere running, and they were betrayed. I sincerely hope the staff at least got some form of severance.

It wouldn’t even be fair to call it poaching

It sounds more like a rescue…

Right out of the Sidoo playbook, this is. I wonder if Boulud knows what he’s walking in to.

Hey “Bobby” (or whoever you choose to sign off on today, cough)…no I’m not going to publish your spam comments any further. You’ve posted under so many different aliases in so many similar threads on the same subject saying the same shit from the same IP.

No more.

Judging by how few comments are here, the people of Vancouver could care less about the Lumiere closing or staff.

Bring on Boulud…..Sidoo rocks

Did you write that yourself, David, or did you have one of your loyal staff members do it for you?

Worst. Restaurateur. Ever.

@ Mark hahahah.. so true…

Sidoo and is sycophants like to play around with these comment pages. At least this time they are not claiming to be other people.

David Sidoo is a premier businessman in vancouver and a great owner. He single handedly saved feenie’s two restaurants, and yet somehow it gets twisted like he pushed him out, even though david and manjy were paying the bills and feenie just had to cook the food.

Ive known him on a personal level and a business level, and the slander he is getting is ridiculous.

Chef Mackay will upgrade the quality of hte food, even though the money-making moniker “Feenie’s” will be gone

define “saved”

Sounds like mixed feelings depending on which side of the fence you are on. Feenie worked hard like all chefs – got lucky and then it fell apart – time to move on…..
