Metro Loses Manager

by admin on April 27, 2008

Restaurant manager Mike Mitchell was laid off from Burrard Holdings’ Metro restaurant last week. The same company’s sister restaurant, Rare Two, lost its liquor license, an operations partner, and its chef the previous month.

Mitchell and I worked together at the Beach House a 100 years ago, after which he managed at Robson’s CinCin before decamping for Metro. He taught me everything I know about losing gracefully at poker. Good people.

And the bidding starts at . . . Mike won’t be on the market long, that’s for sure.
Plus he makes a wicked old fashioned which I highly suggest as an icebreaker. :)

Mike is also a total Malbec whore!!! He worked at an Argentinian restaurant in London for a while. Congrats to who ever lands him.

Ya. .he did a great job for me at Century for the opening 6 months… Can’t remember that the poker losses were graceful though ;)

I doubt he will have a problem landing a job asp. What is happening to both Rare and Metro now?

I had that (seemingly) 20-minutes-to-build old fashioned of Mikes – one of the best cocktails I’ve ever had in my entire life.

Sad to hear what’s going on at Metro and Rare :(

What is going on with Metro and Rare? They have lost or fired all of their senior management since they opened less than a year ago (A note andrew to update your info on Metro).
The buzz on the street is that they cannot pay their suppliers or employees either….I liked the food but seems to come with far too much baggage. And it is always empty…..

Mr Fowke is whats going on. His knowledge and skills with food are far out played by his terrible management skills and avoidance techniques when faced with difficulties like staff or supplier non payments. Mike Mitchell was perhaps the best thing to have happened to Metro but his loss is the beginning of Metros door swinging shut.
