In my column this week in the WE, I tap out a short guide to some of our farmer’s markets:
As we busy ourselves for the dreadfully imminent beginning of the school and hockey seasons, it’s easy to forget that our farmers markets haven’t come to an end just yet. Some go strong right up until the last weeks of October — but then we won’t see them again until May and June roll back around. So, rather than hunkering down with your books or debating the relative merits of the new Canucks uniform — and thereby, in both scenarios, surrendering any and all claims to what’s left of summer — try spending an hour or two narrowing the disconnect between yourself and the land in which you live by doing a little locally-minded shopping while you still can.
Et cetera.

I had an early dinner at Box-designed Italian Kitchen tonight to kick the tires. First impressions were pretty good. I won’t comment on the food just yet, though I will say the music is unfathomably gaggish. Imagine Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Billy Idol, Sting, and other Mediterranean notables – a pity as the place is pretty enough to warrant an earful from the fat man of Emilia-Romagna and just cool enough to pull off George Clooney’s aunt with a straight face. Neat to see managing partner Robert Byford (husband of Coast manager Denise) dressed in his cheffing blacks working the floor and the pass.
A few more photos after the bump…

Italian Kitchen opened with what appeared to be a fake boob and flashy car contest last night. Though I lost in both categories (sniff), an entertaining time was nevertheless had with plenty of laughter and drinks. Service starts today. More after the leap…
