Goldfish Pacific Kitchen opening soon in Yaletown

Restaurateurs Bud Kanke and Darren Gates announced today the name of their new Yaletown restaurant on behalf of their partners and management. Situated at Helmcken and Mainland (in the space that formerly housed Circolo), Goldfish Pacific Kitchen will be unveiled in May 2007.

According to Gates, the restaurant’s name was selected after a great deal of careful thought and consideration.

“We chose the name Goldfish after a lengthy selection process, including a survey of the Yaletown market,” says Gates. “We wanted it to be modern and contemporary without taking ourselves too seriously.”

Guests can expect a west coast contemporary dining experience complete with fresh regional ingredients and culinary influences from the Pacific Rim. Price per dish will fall between $10 and $26 and the menu will be designed to accommodate sharing with a variety of small and large plates. The wine list will offer the best of the Pacific Northwest and California, accompanied by an innovative cocktail list, local craft beers and premium sakes.

Goldfish Pacific Kitchen has enlisted some key localpartners in its development. Brand management firm Free Agency Creative, interior design company Julie Hodgson Design and food consultant and writer Murray Bancroft have teamed with Goldfish’s general manager Jennifer Hennessey and executive chef William Tse to build a vibrant, energetic room and an approachable, flavourful menu. Dining venues will include a restaurant, lounge, patio and private dining room.

“We are excited to be surrounded by such strong local talent in this project,” says Gates. ” We look forward to becoming a part of the Yaletown community.”
